Ever wonder how the name Awakened Yoga came about? Read Grace's story.
Before opening our doors in 2010, I was doing a typical 9-5 job in human resources trying to climb the corporate ladder, but not having much passion for my work. When I was 9 months pregnant with my 2nd child, I got news that my position was being eliminated. A blessing in disguise, I decided to hatch up a plan to open up exactly what I was passionate about, my own yoga studio.
I had always fantasized about opening a studio – Sugar Land needed one – I was tired of sitting in the chaotic mess that is Houston traffic to teach yoga classes. While I was taking care of my new baby, I created a business plan, looked into financing, and found a location to open a studio.
I had many important decisions to make – what would make our studio different, what styles of yoga to teach, which instructors to hire, what employees I would need, and a plethora of other things I didn’t think about when starting my own studio. However, the most important thing was coming up with a name.
Many of us walk around on autopilot – distracting ourselves when things get stressful, getting absorbed in an online world, and not appreciating the beauty surrounding us. Yoga helps us to appreciate the beauty of life like our family, friends, community, and our inner practice. Yoga teaches us to slow down, listen to our voice, and literally wake up our inner soul. So it was only fitting to name the studio Awakened Yoga Studio. A name that felt natural for me to express how yoga has influenced my life by awakening my inner soul and listening to my heart while being surrounded by the most beautiful people in my life.
In May of 2010, we officially opened our doors. This is a place where you know you’ll get quality instruction, be welcomed by humble people, and be able to awaken your inner self. Thank you Sugar Land for the most hospitable 9 years we have had so far! I look forward to many more.
